Dr. Melissa Hendricks is the pediatric subspecialty service coordinator for the Pediatric Psychology Consultation Service in the Department of Behavioral Psychology at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Hendricks is also an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Hendricks received her doctorate in clinical psychology with specialization in child clinical psychology and behavioral medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008. She completed her internship and two years of post-doctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in pediatric psychology. Dr. Hendricks is licensed in the state of Maryland, and provides training and supervision to pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows in pediatric psychology. She is a professional member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Pediatric Psychology, and the American Diabetes Association.
Dr. Hendricks' training and research have focused on the development and evaluation of interventions to promote coping and adjustment to acute and chronic medical conditions and associated medical treatments for youth and their families. She has special interest in pediatric psychology, the application of applied behavior analysis methods, disease self-management and adherence to complex medical regimens, such as diabetes care, emerging adulthood and transition, and evaluation of behavioral consultation services in inpatient pediatric medical and outpatient subspecialty settings. She recently supervised a study that evaluated psychology consultation-liaison referral patterns and service characteristics, and is currently examining the role of behavioral psychology in interdisciplinary diabetes clinics to facilitate ongoing program development and evaluation.
