The Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress - Training Academy is dedicated to improving the quality of services provided to children and families who have experienced trauma by educating and training mental health and helping professionals in the Baltimore metropolitan area and across the nation on the developmental and behavioral consequences of trauma, evidence-based treatments and trauma-informed treatment approaches.

Our Training Goals:

The Training Academy believes that one of the most effective ways to help a child who has suffered a trauma exposure is to enhance professionals' proficiency and improve their capacity to work more competently with that child and his/her family. Since 1987, the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress has been a training ground for mental health professionals and trainees, maintaining a reputation for providing "state-of-the-art" learning experiences. Subsequent to joining the NCTSN, the Traumatic Stress Center launched the Training Academy and Consultation Services and to-date has trained over 5,000 professionals, organizations and community partners on best practices and childhood traumatic stress. Additional training endeavors include participation in the Maternal & Child Health Bureau Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities training program that offers six to eight graduate level social work interns and two psychology externs a rigorous and enriching clinical experience each year. The Traumatic Stress Center was also awarded funding through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop the Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement (RISE) training program. RISE is a program to promote professional development, research, education and training for racial and ethnic minority graduate students, who are interested in pursuing research experiences in the field of public health.
