Baltimore, Md. – It’s time for the holidays to begin when Festival of Trees returns to the Maryland State Fairgrounds and transforms into a winter wonderland for three days, Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1. Baltimore, Md. -- The National Institutes of Health has awarded a team from Kennedy Krieger Institute and the University of Washington with $2.9 million for the first year of an anticipated three-year grant to test a drug for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).  The award is part of a $12.7 million funding initiative to match nine academic research groups with a selection of pharmaceutical industry compounds to explore new treatments for patients in eight disease areas, including Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia.

BALTIMORE, Md. -- In a study of the co-occurrence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in early school-age children (four to eight years old), researchers at the Kennedy Krieger Institute found that nearly one-third of children with ASD also have clinically significant ADHD symptoms.

Kennedy Krieger Researchers Pinpoint Genetic Cause of Rare Disease and Common Birthmark

Baltimore, Md. -- In new findings published today in the New England Journal of Medicine (Epub ahead of print), researchers from the Kennedy Krieger Institute reveal the discovery of the cause – a genetic mutation that occurs before birth – of Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) and port-wine stain birthmarks. SWS is a rare disorder affecting approximately one in 20,000 births, while port-wine birthmarks are more common, affecting approximately one million individuals in the United States.
