Occupational Therapist II - Odenton
The Occupational Therapist II will perform evaluation and subsequent planning, execution, and supervision of therapy programs for persons with neuromotor dysfunction. The Occupational Therapist II will participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary training programs for affiliating students, staff, and community agencies, clinical supervision of OT students, COTAs, and volunteers/aides, and maintain appropriate patient records.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate assigned patients; plan programs; execute, supervise, and document programs as planned.
- Provide instruction to caregivers regarding home and community programming.
- Maintain written documentation, including patient reports, progress notes, initial and discharge reports, according to procedures of the department, Kennedy Krieger Institute, and Maryland OT guidelines.
- Effectively functions within an interdisciplinary team including actively participating in intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary activities.
- Supervises affiliating students/trainees and COTA staff as assigned.
- Assist in care and maintain of department equipment and supplies.
- Participates in planning and execution of programs for personal and professional growth and development.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited program in Occupational Therapy with a minimum with a Baccalaureate Degree or basic Masters in Occupational Therapy.
- Eligible for license to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Maryland.
- Successful completion of national registration exam.
Experience
- Three years licensed experience in Occupational Therapy with at least two years documented experience in area of specialty.
- Experience in pediatrics and/or rehabilitation and treatment preferred.

Therapy Assistant-Preschool Autism Program $1,000 Hiring Incentive (Center for Autism and Related Disorders-Columbia, MD)
Overview
The Therapy Assistant (Therapeutic Assistant) works with young children with autism and/or related social-language delays in small group speech therapy alongside a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). Treatment sessions focus on communication, social, emotional, and self-regulatory development. Sessions also include push-in occupational therapy services to work on fine and gross motor skills as well as sensory integration and regulation.
Group sizes range from three to five children under the age of six and meet between 3-4 times per week for ninety minutes to two and a half hour sessions. All children have individualized treatment plans and are thoughtfully placed in groups with children working on similar skills. An ability to build relationships and work consistently with many of the same children over a period of time is emphasized. Parental involvement is encouraged and supported through guided observations and regular observation days.

Nurse Practitioner I

The Nurse Practitioner at the Center for Autism Services, Science and Innovation (CASSI™, formerly known as the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, or CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute will conduct initial developmental evaluations, developmental monitoring follow-up appointments, and/or medication management for children ages 2-21 years of age who have Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or other neurodevelopmental diagnoses. The Nurse Practitioner will be a part of an excellent Developmental Pediatrics team comprised of developmental pediatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, and genetic specialists. The Nurse Practitioner will also have the opportunity to collaborate with different disciplines, such as psychology, speech/language, occupational therapy, social work, etc. to provide comprehensive care for patients.
The ideal Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner (with pediatric experience) candidate will have: prior experience in pediatrics and/or developmental-behavioral pediatrics; have an understanding of developmental milestones and recognize developmental differences; have knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related neurodevelopmental diagnoses; be able to complete histories, physical exams, and developmental assessments; formulate diagnoses; implement plans of care; and complete follow-ups within the appropriate time frame; conduct appointments both in-person and via Telehealth format; be able to prescribe and manage psychotropic medications appropriately, when necessary; provide appropriate referrals to therapists and subspecialists; order appropriate labs, imaging, and other diagnostics as needed; consult with physicians, when necessary; be a team player and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team; complete documentation, prescription requests, and other administrative tasks in a timely manner; maintain necessary certification(s) and licensure(s); attend all required staff meetings; participate in continuing education that pertains to Autism Spectrum Disorder, neurodevelopmental diagnoses, and/or developmental-behavioral pediatrics; effectively communicate with patients and their families; advocate for and provide strength-based, neuroaffirmative care for patients and their families.
Qualifications

The Director of CASSI Speech-Language Pathology Outpatient Clinics and Achievements is responsible for the operation of clinical, administrative, training and research, and program development activities within the Center for Autism Services, Science and Innovation (CASSI™) Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Outpatient Clinics and Achievements programs. The incumbent will work with the CASSI SLP managers to maintain responsibility for daily operations, implementing, coordinating and supervising the clinical service aspects of the department’s SLP Outpatient Clinics and Achievements programs across all locations. The incumbent will coordinate with the managers and senior SLP staff in establishing and implementing CASSI SLP program policies, procedures, standards, and goals; consult and act as a liaison within CASSI and externally. This position will collaborate and coordinate with the Speech-Language Pathology discipline director related to leveraging knowledge across the Institute. The incumbent will provide direct patient care by assessing and treating children with communication (i.e., speech/language) and oral motor disorders.
Responsibilities
- Establish the scope of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services within the Center for Autism Services, Science and Innovation (CASSI™) interdisciplinary context in collaboration with the department’s Executive Director. Provide oversight to ensure quality and effectiveness of clinical services while overseeing all discipline-related matters for CASSI's SLP services across all locations (e.g., the scope of service, documentation, billing, coding, standards of care, ethical practice, etc.).
- Work in collaboration with SLP Managers or designees to oversee staff licensure, competencies, recruitment, hiring, training, retention, supervision, and performance evaluation of CASSI SLP and SLP-A clinical staff.
- Provide direction to the CASSI SLP Managers or designees regarding the day-to-day functions related to clinical and patient care issues inclusive of monitoring the quality of clinical services in SLP and developing plans for addressing any identified concerns.
- Conduct functional communication (i.e., speech/language), oral motor, and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) assessments and treatment, with consideration to patients’ and families’ needs and interests. Services provided will include speech and language evaluations, treatment and parent training.
- In conjunction with the SLP managers and the Director of Clinical Operations, prepare and monitor the annual SLP budget; and policies and procedures related to clinical functions and productivity standards.
- Assure program compliance with regulatory functions including The Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and departmental Quality Improvement and Innovation activities.
- Serve as an advocate and liaison for SLP and Achievements services with the department’s Executive Director and Director of Clinical Operations.
- Participate in and/or leads appropriate departmental and external meetings/committees.
- Monitor and maintain the condition of program facilities and equipment in a manner that promotes efficiency, health, comfort, and safety and is consistent with the Institute’s policies.
- Promote and participate in interdisciplinary training as an individual and/or as a program lead within and outside the Institute.
- Oversee the development and implementation of training and continuing education plans for the clinical fellows, SLPs, SLP-As, student SLP interns, and other staff in the department’s Outpatient Clinic and Achievements programs.
- Promote, develop, and participate in training activities at the local, state, national and international levels, including the development and dissemination of curricula, workshops, poster and paper presentations, scholarly publications, book chapters, monographs, and textbooks.
- Promote and participate in both discipline and interdisciplinary research both as an individual and as a program lead.
- In conjunction with SLP and Achievements managers, oversee implementation and monitoring of evidenced-based decision-making and practices across CASSI locations. Create effective and efficient data collection systems and analysis of clinical services. Promote and assist staff with identifying opportunities for clinical research and developing protocols to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical practices.
- Engages in ongoing alignment and collaboration with the discipline Director of Speech-Language Pathology and Assistive Technology.
Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain Maryland State Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Must hold and maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) granted by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Education:
- PhD or equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology (or related area) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a licensed Speech Language Pathologist required.
- Minimum of four years’ experience in each of the following areas:
