This presentation will provide unique insight to the personal and professional aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Family members will learn practical strategies for self care and ways to support their child's daily needs. Compassion fatigue as it relates to care-giving will also be discussed. Professionals working with families of children with autism will also gain insight into the home lives of the families they serve.

Presenter:

Christie Rogers, MS, CCC-SLP is a licensed speech-language pathologist at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute. Following her son's diagnosis of autism in 2000, she returned to school for her bachelor's and master's degrees in speech-language pathology, and is currently working on her clinical doctorate degree. Her journey into the world of autism lead her to a career in diagnosing autism spectrum disorders in other children and adolescents.She continues to perform diagnostic evaluations at CARD, with a particular interest in differential diagnosis and comorbidity of autism and other psychiatric disorders.
