About

Dr. Maggie Tunney is a licensed psychologist with the Pediatric Psychology Consultation Program in the Department of Behavioral Psychology. She serves as the director of the Inpatient Pediatric Psychology Consultation-Liaison Service, director of the Inpatient Chronic Pain and Functional Rehabilitation Program, and site director of The Comfort Ability Workshop at Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Tunney is also an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Tunney is a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland, and provides training and supervision to doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows in pediatric psychology. She also provides clinical psychological services to children and their families throughout Kennedy Krieger Institute’s inpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit, outpatient Limb Differences Clinic, outpatient Angelman Syndrome Clinic and weekend Comfort Ability Workshop.

Education

Dr. Tunney received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with specialization in children and families from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship training in pediatric psychology at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Dr. Tunney is a professional member of the Society for Pediatric Psychology (SPP) and the American Psychological Association (APA), including the Divisions of Pediatric Psychology and Rehabilitation Psychology. She holds leadership positions within various SPP Special Interest Groups (SIGs), including chair of the Functional Neurological Symptoms Disorder Research Committee and chair of the Rehabilitation Medicine Board.

Research Summary

Dr. Tunney’s clinical and research interests focus on the assessment and treatment of youth with acute and chronic medical conditions. Special interests and training include inpatient neurorehabilitation, medical and procedural preparation, chronic pain and functional neurological conditions, limb differences, and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
