Children treated at Kennedy Krieger Institute had every reason to cheer for the Baltimore Orioles this past season. Every time an Orioles’ pitcher threw a strikeout at Camden Yards, SECU—Maryland’s largest credit union—donated $50 to the Institute as part of SECU’s K’s for Kids program. At the end of the season, SECU presented a check to Kennedy Krieger for $31,400, representing 628 strikeouts!
In addition to this gift, the partnership between SECU and the Orioles provided opportunities for Kennedy Krieger patients and students, and their families, to watch games at Camden Yards from the Orioles’ corporate sponsorship box, meet Orioles’ players and coaches during batting practice, and receive a visit from the Oriole Bird mascot at the Institute this past fall.
“We are incredibly grateful to SECU and the Baltimore Orioles for naming us as this year’s K’s for Kids recipient,” says Dr. Bradley Schlaggar, president and CEO of Kennedy Krieger. “We depend on donations to continue our vital mission of helping each child achieve their best life through innovative research, therapies, education and community programs.” Thanks to SECU and the Orioles, children were able to temporarily forget about being patients and enjoy the simpler things this baseball season.
