Kennedy Krieger Joins DAF Day Efforts on Oct. 10, Spearheading a New Kind of Giving Day

BALTIMORE, October 10, 2024 – Kennedy Krieger Institute is collaborating in the launch of the first-ever DAF Day, a new kind of giving day that reframes how donor-advised funds (DAFs) are used and who uses them.

Many donors, particularly younger donors, are not familiar with DAFs—they are a tax-advantaged charitable giving account, similar to a 401(k) for retirement or a health saving account (HSA) for health care expenses. DAFs have expanded rapidly in recent years, with the number of accounts growing exponentially since 2012.

“DAFs are a terrific way to be more thoughtful about giving and to make the impact you want to make with your charitable contributions,” said Carrie Hull, Kennedy Krieger’s Director of Planned Giving. “That’s why we are excited to participate in DAF Day and to share more information about this giving option. We think it will appeal to many supporters who are not currently using DAFs.”

Ahead of DAF Day, Hull encourages donors with any DAF to sign up on DAFday.com in support of Kennedy Krieger Institute. She also advises donors to follow this easy advice:

  • Set an intention—affirm you will make at least one DAF gift on Oct. 10
  • Make a giving goal—share how much you hope to give from you DAF in one day
  • Consider Kennedy Krieger—name the Institute as the nonprofit you plan to support.

“We are so grateful to everyone who supports Kennedy Krieger and our mission to improve the lives of our patients through treatment, research, education, and community programs,” Hull said. “We hope both new and existing donors will find this information about DAF Day to be helpful.”
