The Community and Professional Development Training Program offered by the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute is committed to providing evidence-based training across a broad spectrum of topics to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families. MCDD's 2024 Annual Learning Series will occur from April through October. The series consists of three-hour continuing education (CEU) virtual and in-person workshops with interdisciplinary topics focused on working with individuals with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities and their families.
The learning series consists of 12 workshops:
- April 4: “Fostering Meaningful Inclusion and Belonging at Work and in Life Spaces: Why it Matters and How to Prioritize it”

- April 25: “Examining Structural Violence through an Intersectional Disability Justice Lens: Active Shooter Drills, Resource Officers, and Police Brutality”
- May 1: “Supporting Children and Youth in Foster Care through Effective Engagement of Foster Parents in the Community”
- May 23: “Suicidal Behaviors in People with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities: Strategies for Successful Care”
- June 6: “Cultural Humility and Working with Culturally Diverse Population: Applying the Family as Host Model for Culturally Responsive Practice”
- June 13: “Transition Planning and Preparing for the Future for Students with Disabilities: Strategies for Positive Outcome”
- June 20: “Designing IEPs for Children Exposed to Trauma and Using IEP to Address the Effect of Trauma”
- July 18: “Hot Topics: Informal School Removals and How Those Working with Students with Disabilities can Respond”
- July 24: “Neurodiversity in the Workplace: Practical and Ethical Considerations for Neurodiversity Inclusion in Organizations”
- September 12: “Social Justice and Promoting Positive Mental Health Outcomes for Black Youth: How School, Home and Community Members Can Help”
- October 10: “Sexual Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: How Providers can Help”
