Hours: 560 hours total—40 hours a week for 14 weeks. 

Days: Monday-Friday

*Please note: Candidates will be required to develop two evening and two weekend programs which need to be completed during their 14-week internship period. Specific dates to be determined once candidate(s) are selected.

Recreational Therapy at Kennedy Krieger Institute 

  • Serves children to adults on the inpatient rehabilitation unit with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, chronic pain, feeding disorders, individuals recovering from orthopedic surgeries and other complex medical conditions.
  • Provides leisure interventions to promote social, physical, cognitive and emotional functioning.
  • Works closely with a multidisciplinary team (CL, PT, OT, SLP, NP, BP) to increase independence for each patient.

Internship Schedule Breakdown

  • Weeks 1-2: Department and Inpatient orientation
  • Weeks 3-4: Recreational therapy/Inpatient Rehab observations
  • Weeks 5-9: Co-facilitation of Recreational Therapy responsibilities
  • Weeks 9-14: Independent facilitation of recreational therapy responsibilities
