A brain injury can change everything about us - who we are, the way we think, how we act - in a matter of seconds.
Because the effects of a brain injury vary greatly from person to person, we believe no two patients should receive the same treatment.
At the Center for Brain Injury Recovery at Kennedy Krieger Institute, our interdisciplinary team of specialists work together to evaluate, diagnose, and create an individualized treatment plan customized to you or your loved one's needs.
Though every patient's rehabilitation plan is different, we strive to ensure each patient leaves our Center with a renewed sense of normalcy, and most importantly, a renewed sense of hope.
Our Services
From 24-hour inpatient care to outpatient specialty programs, the Center for Brain Injury Recovery helps children and young adults up to age 21 recover from their injuries and make the transition back to home, school and community life. Whether a child’s symptoms are severe or mild, specialists from multiple disciplines work together to evaluate, diagnose and create an individualized treatment plan customized to each patient’s unique needs.
The most intensive level of care happens in our inpatient unit, providing 24-hour nursing care and intensive, interdisciplinary treatment by a physician-led team of rehabilitation professionals. Established in 1979, Kennedy Krieger’s inpatient unit was the first program of its kind in Maryland to be accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Since then, our specialists have treated thousands of children and adolescents with rehabilitation needs due to neurological injury or illness. The Center for Brain Injury Recovery is also accredited by The Joint Commission.
