The interdisciplinary team of professionals at Kennedy Krieger Institute’s International Center for Spinal Cord Injury has extensive experience in caring for children with paralysis and disorders of the spinal cord. We offer the most comprehensive care and innovative therapies available, and each patient receives an individualized treatment plan.
Our Services to Children With Spinal Cord Injuries
- Every patient is seen by a physician that is board-certified in spinal cord injury and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
- We have more than 70 licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists and physical therapy assistants.
- All therapy is provided by licensed therapists, many of whom hold advanced certifications in pediatrics, dry needling, assistive technology, Kinesio® taping, wound healing, seating and mobility, visceral and manual therapy, lymphedema, vestibular management, and much more.
- We offer a one-to-one ratio of therapists to patients. Therapists work directly with individual patients and their family members during all scheduled therapy sessions to maximize the benefits of therapy and ensure proper therapeutic techniques are followed. While most traditional therapy programs are designed for adults and must be modified for children, we have programs and equipment that have been developed specifically for children and adolescents.
- Additionally, the members of our interdisciplinary team have years of experience developing and tailoring treatment plans with the unique physical, developmental, educational and social needs of children in mind. Our therapists combine recreational and functional activities to both motivate children and improve their skills.
- Innovation and technology are key components of our advanced treatment and rehabilitation program. We offer state-of-the-art rehabilitative, robotic and diagnostic equipment in coordination with expert hands-on treatment.
